We're a way and up early finally and change towards Croatia than Waiheke is from Mission Bay which is distance that is less. Shortly we're sailing past Umag, Novigrad (there are 2 Novigrads that we know of to port in Croatia) and Porec in a NE wind. Our new sails in 8 - 10 knot wind on the beam reaching along at 5-6 knots of boat speed and Steve tweaking as we go, don't disappoint; it is a moment we've waiting for and they gleam very white against the brilliant blue sky. That is really what we found the Med for.
We close on our location Rovinje by approximately 14.30 and spectacular sights meet our eyes. We cram in to a space which appears scarcely large enough and we need to run a very long line right to another side. Fenders and springs are every where including paying approx E-250 for our annual cruising permit for Croatia, and we hurriedly consider our documents ashore to complete our formalities.
We immediately proceed through the washer of boats to find our anchorage in a lagoon kind bay called Sue south but towards the Punta Corrente Forest Park established in 1890 by Baron Hutterodt although the harbour is interesting. We swim off the yacht (our charter just began) in crystal-clear water and are joined by interested blue fish which follow us about. Before too long we discover the bodies on the opposite boats around us are mainly naked and we gleefully shed our clothes along with our stress of sailing in to a port for the very first time that is international. It all drops away and we wonder at our wonderful surroundings.
